HENRY HORTON STATE PARK Karen Moore is the Park Manager at Henry Horton State Park and she has been very gracious in allowing us to use of the park for The Middle Tennessee Plant Swap. Please be sure to thank her personally for all that she is doing for us. I’m sure that they wouldn’t mind a plant or two donated to the park so please keep that in mind as well. If you are going to stay at the Inn, in one of the cabins or at the campground then make a point of letting her know that you are attending the MTPS. They are very excited to have us at HHSP so let’s make sure that we leave them with a great impression of the quality and character of the MTPS attendees. About Henry Horton State Park Set in the rolling hills of Middle Tennessee, the park is located on the former estate of the late Henry H. Horton, 36th governor of Tennessee. The park is located on the shores of the historic Duck River, the longest stretch of free flowing river in Tennessee. Remnants of a mill and bridge operated and used by Horton's spouse's family for over a century may be seen today on the Wilhoite Mill Trail.
The Conference/Meeting Lodge can accommodate 160 people when arranged classroom style or 200 arranged in the theater style. Kitchen facilities are available at the lodge. There are four meeting rooms in the inn with 2,000 sq. ft of space to accommodate from 15-90 people. The Conference Lodge with 3,150 sq. ft of meeting space is located in a separate building near the inn and is used for large meetings up to 300 people. Henry Horton Restaurant is a family restaurant capable of
seating 255 people and includes two private dining areas. It serves an outstanding southern cuisine buffet along with special catered meals and banquets.
Lodging Henry Horton State Park offers a variety of accommodation options. The Park Inn is very popular with golfers, vacationing families, conferences, and small conventions, and offers 65 inn rooms and four suites. The park also offers 5 rustic cabins and 2 deluxe cabins, all within walking distance of the hotel. There are 72 campsites, all situated near the scenic Duck River. There are 10 primitive sites recommended for tents only, and a large group site for primitive camping.
Seven cabins are located within walking distance of the hotel. There are 5 rustic and 2 deluxe. The rustic cabins have two bedrooms w/queen beds, one bath, full kitchen, living room, wood burning fireplaces (wood provided), window air conditioners, TV, phones, charcoal grills outside. The deluxe cabins have two bedrooms and bathrooms, gas fireplace, central heat and air and the amenities of the rustic cabins. Check-in time is guaranteed 4:00 p.m. and check out time is 11:00 a.m. There is one pet-friendly cabin. Cabins are open year-round are reserved for at least a two-night minimum. One of the deluxe cabins is handicap accessible. Major credit cards and checks are accepted.
Camping: There are 72 campsites situated near the scenic Duck River. There are 10 primitive sites recommended for tents only, and a large group site for primitive camping. The remaining 56 sites have tables, grills, water and electric hook-ups. Two bathhouses and a dump station for self-contained trailer rigs serve campers. All campsites are on a first-come first-serve basis. The stay limit is two weeks. Pets are welcome; however, they must be kept on a leash. Park Inn: The inn is very popular with golfers, vacationing families, conferences, and small conventions. The Henry Horton Inn provides the guest with 65 inn rooms and four suites. Rooms are air conditioned, carpeted, and equipped with TV and phone. The suites have a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The inn has three pet-friendly rooms. The hotel has handicap rooms available. Activities There's a lot to do and see at Henry Horton State Park! Duck River anglers can catch largemouth and small mouth bass, red-eye, and catfish, among many other species. Various canoe floats, festivals and celebrations are available year-round, with other programs on request. Henry Horton State Park also boasts an 18-hole 72 par golf course and a professional trap and skeet range! (The Henry Horton Trap and Skeet Range will be open seven days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day.)
Biking -There is a paved area that is a little over a mile long that is good for bikers and walkers. Fishing - A valid Tennessee Fishing License is required for anglers 13 years of age and older. Local convenience stores sell the license as well as live bait. Duck River anglers can catch largemouth and small mouth bass, red-eye, and catfish among many other species. Golf The golf course is an 18-hole championship par 72 course. It is only closed on holidays. The pro-shop has an excellent snack bar boasting the best hamburger in the area! The course also has a driving range. Rental clubs are available at the pro-shop. Call (931) 364-2319 to contact the pro shop.
Playgrounds/ Sports Fields Playgrounds and sports fields are located near the picnic areas. Activities to enjoy at the park include volleyball, disc golf, baseball, basketball court, tennis and playground.
Example programs: Shooting - Open seasonally, first working day after March 15th thru December 1st. Open Wednesday thru Sunday, closed on Monday and Tuesday. There are five skeet fields, 2 trap fields and lodge building with concessions, gun rental and ammo available. A picnic shelter is available for large shoots or related gatherings. No pullers provided. Must be 18 years of age or youth sportsman. A valid hunter education card required for shooters under the age of 18.
Gift Shop The inn has a gift shop containing toiletries, T-Shirts, books, caps, birdhouses, and many Tennessee-made crafts. Tour bus information Tour Buses and Motor Coaches are welcome. Please call in advance to request programs. Group room rates and group meals are also available with advance reservations.

Hiking - There are three easy-rated hiking trails at Henry
Horton. The Hickory Ridge Loop is located near the campground and traverses habitats ranging from oak-hickory forest to unusual cedar glades. The Wilhoite Mill Trail follows
the Duck River among second growth woods covering an early mill community. The Turkey Trail winds through rich woods and old fields.
Picnic Facilities - Henry Horton has 83 picnic sites in a very
scenic picnic area located on the shores of the Duck River. Tables and grills are provided and water, restrooms, playgrounds, and play fields are located nearby. There are 4
large group picnic pavilions located nearby, capable of accommodating 125 people and equipped with grills and water spigots. Picnic shelters are available by reservation only!
There is a small charge for three of the four shelters and no charge for the other. Please contact the park at 931-364-7724.
Programs - Rangers will provide programs for any group year
-round upon request. During the summer months, programs covering a variety of natural and cultural history topics are scheduled weekly. Hay rides, campfires and many other fun
and informative activities take place on the weekends. Canoeing the easy-flowing Duck River is great family fun. Scheduled day floats are conducted by park staff during the
summer, or visitors may bring their own or rent canoes from a nearby outfitter.
Swimming pool - The Park has an Olympic-sized pool with
bathhouses and a concession stand. The pool is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Ample sunbathing space is provided with the pool area, and there is a wading
pool for children. Lifeguards are on duty during swimming hours. Registered inn and cabin guests swim free. Camping guests swim at discounted rate with a camping receipt. Swimming lessons are given during the summer.
